JLG to Close Orrville Manufacturing

Hagerstown, MD — January 26, 2017 — JLG Industries, Inc., an Oshkosh Corporation company [NYSE:OSK] and a leading global manufacturer of aerial work platforms and telehandlers, today announced it will close its telehandler assembly lines at the company’s Orrville, Ohio plant by September 30, 2017, transferring production to its Pennsylvania-based facilities. The current JLG telehandler offering in North America will remain unchanged, with engineering services in Orrville continuing normal operations.

“As part of our simplification strategy, we have evaluated our global manufacturing footprint to ensure our operations are optimized,” said Frank Nerenhausen, Oshkosh Executive Vice President and President Access Division.  “This planned action will allow us to improve performance to maintain our position as an access equipment leader around the globe.”

These proposed changes may affect up to 279 employees at the Orrville facility. Team members are being given 8 months’ notice of this impending change. We anticipate this facility to remain operational through its planned closure date. Relocation options for affected employees to other JLG facilities will be considered where possible with severance packages offered to those for whom a redundancy cannot be avoided.

“These actions, although difficult, are the right ones for our business,” said Nerenhausen. “Simplifying our operations aligns with our long term vision and strategic direction, positioning JLG to deliver an enhanced customer experience and improved return on investment moving forward.”

These operational changes are not isolated to the Orrville location. In addition, JLG has submitted plans for closure to the works council in Maasmechelen, Belgium for its manufacturing and Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) facilities and to employee representatives in the UK for its engineering center in Bruntingthorpe.
