Winter Walk

Are you ready to launch your winter walking program?

The Growing Healthy Habits Coalition is here to help you kick it off with a Winter Walk on Saturday, December 12.

The starting point for the two mile walk will be at the Heartland Trail trailhead on the corner of W. Market and Depot Streets and will be open from 8:00 am to noon.

This event also provides the first opportunity for teams to sign up for the 2021 Lose-a-Ton, Win-a-Ton Get Fit competition. The winning team will earn a $2,000 cash prize for the winning team.   Coalition members will be present with information about the contest to help you register.  They will also share information about their business or organization and how they can help you reach your healthy habit goals.

This year, more than ever before, people have focused on outdoor activities for their physical, mental, emotional and social well being.  Dressing in layers and wearing good walking shoes or boots for colder temperatures will allow people to continue getting their exercise. Winter can often be a beautiful time to enjoy the outdoors.

Maps will be provided for the two mile route which will follow the Rails-to-Trails of Wayne County Heartland Trail on Sterling Avenue to the City Dog Park, continuing north to Main Street and north to Hostetler Road.  Crossing Main Street, the walk route heads south on Main to W Market and back to the trailhead.  The walk will feature fun photo challenges, beautiful nature and holiday scenery at certain locations along the way.

The health, wellness, and safety of the event participants are a top priority and physical distancing, along with walking in small groups is recommended during this self-paced walk.  Any updates to the walk will be posted on the Growing Healthy Habits website at Aultman, Growing Healthy Habits. GHH also has a Facebook page.

The Mission of the Growing Healthy Habits Coalition is to serve as the catalyst for improving decisions about fitness, nutrition and healthy lifestyle made by individuals, groups and institutions within the greater Orrville community.  Coalition committee member represent a variety of business and organizations representing positive healthy choices and activities.
