Ohio Means Jobs reports nearly 188,000 job opportunities currently available in the State of Ohio. Nearly half of these openings pay an average annual salary of $50,000. A critical shortage of workers locally and throughout the State of Ohio, is impacting customer service, hours of operation and availability of goods.
A key component of the The Orrville Area Chamber of Commerce mission is to help member businesses achieve their goals. Right now, local employers need employees.
The Chamber is focusing their efforts on connecting employers to local high school and college students for entry-level job opportunities. Of course, this initiative always raises visibility of skilled and professional job openings.
In May, school districts and educational partners throughout Wayne County assisted the OACC in distributing a work experience survey directly to students. A total of 340 students completed the survey and were entered into a drawing for a $50 cash prize.
Hannah Huffman, a senior at Rittman High School, was selected by random drawing as the winner. Huffman currently works more than 20 hours per week at Rite-Aid and will be attending The University of Akron Wayne College in the fall.

Student employee spotlights like Lizzie Troyer, an Orrville High School student that works at The Bouquet Shop, will be shared on the Orrville Area Chamber of Commerce’s social media channel’s and can also be found in the workforce section of the Chamber’s website.
