The Orrville Area Safety Council held their first meeting at The University of Akron Wayne College, August 8 on the topic of emergency preparedness. 


James Keplar, EHS and Security Manager with The Will-Burt Company and the president of the Orrville Area Safety Council Steering Committee, presented Emergency Preparedness for Employers to an audience of 71 local safety managers and business owners. 


Keplar’s overview included a review of resources for 1.) Emergency Action Planning; 2.) OSHA Minimum Plan Requirements; 3.) Evacuation Plans; 4.) Training; 5.) Tools for Developing Plans.

The Orrville Area Safety Council is a partnership between the Orrville Area Chamber of Commerce and the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation. Regular attendance at monthly safety council meetings educate employers on the latest safety, workers’ compensation and risk-management information, techniques, products and services. Participation provides a potential premium rebate of up to 4 percent for attendance and workplace safety performance.


The September 12 meeting topic will discuss the risk of, Slips, Trips, and Falls in the Workplace.
