Lexi Nussbaum Presents to Orrville Area Young Professionals

Landre McCloud • Nov 29, 2022

Lexi Nussbaum, General Manager of Jarrett Fitness Facilities, presented to the Orrville Area Young Professionals group on November 17. The interactive session was focused on the top five office myths that are impacting your health journey. Lexi started Power Pose Nutrition in 2020 and manages it along with Zephyrs Fitness and CrossFit Orrville. Power Pose Nutrition (PPN) is an online health coaching company that specializes in weight loss transformations for women.

“Increasing our knowledge and education helps us become better advocates for ourselves,” said Nussbaum.

The myths ranged from the why behind the classic 2PM energy slump - to the benefits of exercise, even if it’s not a gym session - to best handling holiday meals this season.

“I see many office employees dragging after lunch,” Nussbaum said. “So they grab another cup of coffee.”

Instead of coffee, Nussbaum encouraged participants to start to attack their 2PM energy levels as early as the morning. She explained that eating a balanced and high protein meal for breakfast can help our bodies hormones and blood sugar be better regulated, which leads to a more energetic day. She shared some of her and her clients’ favorite breakfast options and recipes.

As the presentation continued, participants were lead through a short functional movement exercise series where Nussbaum correlated every day movement with strength building exercises.

“You might not make it to the gym to squat. Or actually, you may not even have the desire to go to the gym to squat, and that’s OK,” Nussbaum said. “But you’re squating every day – sitting to a chair, a toilet, your couch, it’s all the same range of motion, and that’s why it’s important to practice.”

Nussbaum touched on the points of performance for some basic movements that can be practiced in a short amount of time in any location.

“Being functionally capable keeps us independent as we age. Don’t all of us want that for ourselves?” Nussbaum challenged.

The presentation ended with Nussbaum and Power Pose Nutrition’s philisophy on holiday dieting with the short sentiment: there are 365 days in the year. If you count all of the holidays and even a day or two before or after, it’s still less than 3% of the year. What you do in that 3% will not make or break your health journey. It’s the 97% that counts.

Nussbaum encouraged the group, “to make these changes, it can be a slow roll out, doesn’t have to be changed tomorrow. Start small, and build from there. This is a lifelong journey,” said Nussbaum.

“Last week’s interactive session with Lexi was so insightful, especially since we’re moving into the holiday season,” said Megan Gray of The Will-Burt Company.

“I think we will all benefit from being more mindful of our activity level and whole food intake over the next few weeks. I’m looking forward to testing out a few of the recipes!”
