Wooster Radio Celebrates 75th Anniversary

Jun 06, 2022

Wooster Radio (WQKT/WKVX) is celebrating our 75th anniversary. We are proud to say, not only have we been on the air for 75 years, but we have also been under the same ownership. The Dix family, owners of Dix 1898, made the decision to go live with WWST and WKVX on September 17, 1947, and we have been live and local ever since.

Listeners have relied on our coverage of local news, sports, and weather. Remember our coverage of Miss WWST in the 50’s and 60’s, the flood of 1969, professional baseball pitcher Dean Chance, 911, COVID 19 and the various sporting and community events we’ve broadcast?

As we celebrate our diamond anniversary with a look back at the past 75 years, we are also looking forward to the future. We know the radio industry is changing and there are more ways to consume music and content. That’s why we are changing our name from Wooster Radio to Q Media Wooster.  Q Media Wooster encompasses radio broadcasting, live stream video services and digital marketing solutions. We’ll still have 104.5 WQKT FM sports country and 960 WKVX AM classic hits, but you will see us coupling our live sports broadcast with video streaming. Plus, we can now offer businesses the opportunity to target new audiences with digital advertising.

We’ve enjoyed being a part of the community for the past 75 years and we would love to hear how Wooster Radio has impacted you. Were you or someone you know a Miss WWST? Do you have memories of our 1969 flood coverage? Were you involved in a monumental sporting event or community event covered by us? If you have a story or photos you would like to share to help us celebrate our diamond anniversary, contact Kelly Gearhart at kgearhart@wqkt.com or 330-264-5122.
