The Orrville Area Safety Council held their last meeting of the 2019 fiscal year on June 12th on the topic of severe weather safety.

Sarah Jamison a Hydrologist for the National Weather Service in Cleveland, specializing in potential floods and other weather-related advisory communications, came to discuss the most severe weather threats that employers must face being in Ohio.

Weather advisory levels, employee safety during extreme weather and the importance of having emergency plans in place for all possible weather threats were just a few of the highlights Jamison discussed with the council.

“Weather advisories should be taken seriously by employers” stated Jamison, “injuries can be easily prevented if emergency weather plans are in place and employers keep staff informed during the event of a weather watch or warning being issued.”

The Orrville Area Safety Council, a partnership between Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation and the Orrville Area Chamber of Commerce, is a monthly lunch and learn program held at The University of Akron Wayne College campus on the second Wednesday of each month. Attendance at the monthly council meetings and submissions of two semi-annual reports may save your company a 2%-4% rebate on workers compensation premiums.

To be rebate eligible for 2020 fiscal year, a company must enroll between June 1 and July 31st. If you are interested in knowing more about joining Orrville Area Safety Council, the first meeting of the 2020 year will be held on July 10 as an Orientation to BWC and Safety Council.
